JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — Sullivan West elementary music teacher Alison Kramer put on a production about sustainability with the fifth-grade class at Sullivan West.  

The children’s play explained that we are using up a lot of our natural resources that cannot be renewed, and that global warming and climate change are becoming a huge problem to the environment. 

The children are also aware that a lot of plants and animals are becoming endangered or extinct and that air and water pollution is also becoming a serious problem. 

The class suggested that even doing the smallest things can make a huge difference—maybe just using basic common sense can help significantly. 

The children also said that there might be things we can do that we might not automatically think of, like turning off the lights if you are leaving a room or turning off your computer or TV when you are not using it. 

The class thinks that instead of trying to do everything at once, we can do small things and build on them—and that even if we try really hard not to make mistakes, we still will. 

That’s OK, because no one is perfect. Every little thing we do today will matter tomorrow and farther into the future. 

The fifth grade believes that all the two billion kids in the world can teach other people to develop earth-friendly habits so that the many generations that will come after us can live in a happier, healthier and greener environment all thanks to us.
