NARROWSBURG, NY — On Sunday, September 10, beginning at 12 noon, Fort Delaware will host its first-ever Shut the Box tournament for children and adults.
Shut the Box is a simple but fascinating little game that was very popular with George Washington’s Continental Army soldiers, who played it often and wagered on the outcome.
The tournament is open to all, and there is no charge to play. Each game will consist of four players, and the competition will be in a round-robin format.
Those interested in participating can sign up in the fort’s gift shop or by emailing jconway52@hotmail.com with “Shut the Box” in the subject line.
Players will be notified via email when they are scheduled to play.
