Shadfest: The return

RIVER VALLEY — Sporting waders and a large map, Elizabeth Koniers Brown, Delaware River Basin Commission Director of External Affairs and Communications, was on hand to talk with visitors at the Angler’s Fair held at Fort Delaware on Saturday, May 20. The event was part of Shadfest, also known as the Festival of the Founding Fish.

The opening salvo of the second annual celebration of shad (a herring-like fish that spends much of its life in the sea, typically entering rivers to spawn), began earlier that day at the Barryville Farmers’ Market. It included live music and a flotilla of revelers making their way down the Delaware.

In addition, there were vendors, shoppers, lots of kids, plenty of pooches to pet—and shad, shad, shad.

It featured Nordic Preserves’ celebrity chef Annika Sundvik, who hosted a tasting booth at both the market and at Narrowsburg’s Fort Delaware, where the party continued into the night.
