MILFORD, PA — The tradition of a free take-out community Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings continues on Thursday, November 23. Meals need to be reserved by Wednesday, November 15.

The tradition has continued for 37 years and is ideal for those who cannot be with their families or for those in need.

The meals can be delivered locally or picked up in Dingmans Ferry or Milford.

The food will be prepared this year at the Delaware Township Building on Wilson Hill Road in Dingmans Ferry, PA. The day starts at 8:30 a.m. for a few volunteers who cook the food.

Volunteers will deliver turkey dinners and lots of extras to people in the local Meals on Wheels program or to the homebound beginning at about 11:30 a.m.

The delivery area is limited to the Milford area and the surrounding townships and boroughs of Delaware, Dingman, Milford, Westfall and Matamoras, and the city of Port Jervis, NY.

This program is made possible through the efforts of many people. Local businesses make donations to buy the food. Delaware Township provides the facility. Volunteers help with preparation and delivery.

While they can’t do sit-down dinners this year, they will also have free takeout meals available for pickup at the Delaware Township Building on Wilson Hill Road in Dingmans Ferry starting at 11 a.m. or at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Fifth and Catharine Streets in Milford Borough from 12 noon until 1 p.m.

“There is one catch,” organizers said. “You have to reserve your dinners no later than Wednesday, November 15. We have shopping to do, you know.”
