CORNWALL, NY — The Veterans Committee of Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties will host its fourth annual Thank You and  Memorial ceremony at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 29 at the Cornwall Yacht Club.

The morning marks National  Vietnam War Veterans Day.

In early 2017, Congress passed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act,  establishing March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The holiday is also known as Welcome  Home Vietnam Veterans Day.

The day is an opportunity to recognize and give thanks to those who served during the Vietnam war. That includes those who were wounded, who gave their lives, or who went missing. National Vietnam War Veterans  Day is the heroes’ welcome they never received. It underscores the need to heal painful wounds and allows all to pause and give respect and thanks to the patriotic men and women who sacrificed so much in service to their nation.

The ceremony includes a prayer, a reading of names of the 78 individuals from Orange and Sullivan counties who never came home from the war, and the playing of taps.

Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties aims to create a  Veteran-centered organization through education, strategic partnerships, resources and Veteran recognition. Its mission is to serve our nation's Veterans, who have served us.

Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties has provided compassionate, quality end-of-life care to patients and their families since 1981.
