Release-time religious instruction in Liberty

LIBERTY, NY — Release-time religious instruction is in development in the Liberty Central School District.

The program allows public school students to be released during the school day to receive religious instruction at an off-campus location.

Students participate voluntarily and with parental/guardian permission, while non-participating students remain in class.

It is being developed with LifeWise Academy.

“By studying the Bible’s narratives and teachings, students explore themes that support character development that can lay a strong foundation for healthy and moral behavior throughout their lives,” an organizer wrote.

Another informational meeting will be held on Monday, August 26 at 6 p.m. at Lighthouse Ministries Church, located at 23 Triangle Rd.

At the meeting, LifeWise Academy will be introduced and a question-and-answer time will be held.

New York State is one of several states that require school boards to release students to participate in religious instruction. It is legal.

Organizers called it a special, important venue to train up the young generation in the ways of the Bible (Pr. 22:6). Any donations, suggestions or questions are welcome. For questions, call 845/985-7026.
