Police investigate death of child left in car

MONTICELLO, NY — Police are investigating the death yesterday of a two-year-old in Monticello.

The Village of Monticello Police responded at 6:43 p.m. on Tuesday to a 911 report of a child in cardiac arrest inside a vehicle outside Building #14 of the Sleepy Hollow Apartment Complex at Terri Lane. The temperature yesterday reached into the mid-90s.

Monticello officers tried to resuscitate the child, according to the police report. Monticello firefighters and the Catskills Hatzolah EMS also responded.

Their efforts were unsuccessful. Sullivan County Coroner Alan Kesten declared the child dead at the scene.

The police say an investigation is currently underway. The NYS Police have been given the lead in the investigation, assisted by the Monticello police and the county district attorney's office.

The state police will be providing updates.
