SHOHOLA, PA ― “The Veterans Affairs [VA] office is open at our new location, and we are ready to continue assisting Veterans and their families,” said Jesiah Schrader, Veterans Affairs director for Pike County.

The office can now be found next to the Pike County Workforce Development Agency at the Shohola Business Center, 835 Rte. 6, Unit 3. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Schrader and Karen Olson, the deputy director, are available to assist the nearly 4,000 Pike County veterans with navigating veteran benefits processes. 

The office assists with county, state and federal benefits, including real estate tax exemption programs and the Pike County veterans discount card.

It helps with aquiring cemetery flags, filing disability claims, pensions, VTA grants, homelessness assistance and much more. “This past year, the VA Office has increased its service to the Veteran population by expanding upon the services it provides,” said Pike Commissioner Matt Osterberg. “With the recent growth of the office, this move will provide additional opportunities to support our Veterans.” 

The county maintenance team helped with the transition, as did donations from Stone Furniture in Scranton and from VetStock, a local Veteran nonprofit organization.
