HARRISBURG, PA — A bipartisan House Select Committee in Pennsylvania will investigate the response of state and local law enforcement to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Butler, PA, on July 13.
The Select Committee on the Trump Assassination Attempt, which will include three Republicans and three Democrats, will inquire into how law enforcement planned the rally and responded to the shooting, as well as how they coordinated with federal agencies.
The committee is required to produce a report by November 30.
PA House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler has introduced a resolution to form the committee. Its purpose is not to assign blame, he said, but to improve current practices so that high-profile individuals visiting Pennsylvania will be ensured safety, especially with major events planned for the state Semiquincentennial in 2026.
The committee will work with state and local agencies to implement best practices, Cutler said.
