One-car crash leads to cocaine arrest

Posted

HONESDALE, PA -- Joan Manuel MejaMarte, 37, of Carbondale, PA, was charged on June 24 with Possession with Intent to Deliver, a felony; driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and traffic citations.

At approximately 5:50 a.m. on January 31, the PA State Police responded to a one-car crash in Waymart Borough. An investigation found that MejaMarte was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.

In the area of the front passenger seat, police found a large ziplock bag containing a large amount of white powder and a digital scale. Testing of the white powder revealed the bag contained 97.9 grams of cocaine.
Furthermore, medical records obtained from Geisinger Community Medical Center revealed that MejaMarte tested positive for cocaine, fentanyl, and cannabinoids.

The filing of criminal charges is not evidence of guilt but simply a description of the charge
made by the commonwealth against a defendant. A charged defendant is presumed innocent
until a jury returns a unanimous finding that the commonwealth has proven the defendant’s guilt
beyond a reasonable doubt or until the defendant enters a guilty plea to the charges.
