George W. Nieke of Eldred, NY, a lifelong resident, passed away on December 31, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 23, 1940 in Barryville, NY, to the late George and Leona (Beisel) Nieke. He was 81 years old.
George was retired from Sullivan County Division of Public Works; he was a supervisor in the sign shop. George was a member of St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Shohola, PA.
George was married for 46 years to Arleen (Albers) Nieke. She survives. They used to love to go to Florida for the winters. George was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a former member of the Freemason fraternity. He was a member of the Highland Seniors and the Lumberland Seniors.
George is survived by his wife: Arleen; son Roger Nieke and his wife, Shannon; stepson Adam Cobb; stepdaughter Caroline Wagner and her husband, Ronald; sister Nancy Bachelder; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
George is predeceased by sons Russell and Rodney and sisters Gloria, Leona and Lorraine.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday, January 6, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 Rte. 97 in Barryville. Funeral services will follow the visitation on Thursday, taking place at 11 a.m. Christian burial in Montoza Cemetery in Eldred will follow the services.
