Nestor Mir of Swan Lake, NY, a long-time area resident, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021 with his family at his side. He was 88.

The son of the late Jose and Maria Fernandez Mir, he was born September 8, 1932 in Banes, Cuba.

Nestor had worked for Local Union #32B in commercial building maintenance; he was a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Liberty, NY. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time outside in his garden; he wrote poems and songs.

Survivors include his wife, Emilia S. Mir, at home; son Robert J. Mir and his wife, Ann, of Liberty, NY; one daughter, Araceli E. Mir-Pontier and her husband, Glenn, of Barryville, NY; sister Luz Pinacho of Brooklyn, NY; eight grandchildren: Bryan Useo, Jason Parker, Christopher Useo, Nicole Slevin Nikolados, Tanya Mir, Brianna Mir, Hannah Mir and Elena Mir; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one son, Oscar Mir, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation was on July 16 in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley in Liberty. Funeral services took place at 3:30 p.m.

Graveside service and burial occurred July 17 in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Liberty.

Memorial contributions in Nestor’s name may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
