MONTICELLO, NY – Lt. Mark Johnstone reports that the Village of Monticello Police Department arrested Paul A. Ellis, 37, of Monticello, NY, on Wednesday, Nov. 29, and charged him with the felonies of burglary in the third degree and grand larceny in the fourth degree, and the misdemeanor of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.
Ellis was arrested after an investigation into the burglary of Synergy of Monticello Inc. at 2 High Street in the Village of Monticello, according to the police. At 12:52 a.m. on Nov. 29, Ellis broke into the business and stole $2,000 in cash.
The Monticello police said they were able to identify Ellis through video surveillance. Ellis was arrested at 3:20 p.m., when officers observed him walking on Broadway. Police said he was found to still be in possession of $100 of the stolen currency when he was arrested.
In accordance with state bail reform guidelines, Ellis was released on an appearance ticket to return at 9 a.m. on Dec. 4, in the Village of Monticello Justice Court.
