LIBERTY, NY – U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) is in Eagle Pass, Texas, where hundreds of thousands of migrants have crossed illegally into the United States.
Molinaro said this two-day fact-finding trip, on January 2 and 3, comes as border officials have processed more than 300,000 migrants in December, the highest monthly tally on record.
He said he will visit migrant crossing hotspots and speak with Customs and Border Protection agents, and participate in interviews with Gray TV, Nexstar, Sinclair, and Spectrum News affiliates.
“Over 100,000 illegal immigrants are currently in New York City, with more arriving each day,” Molinaro said in his announcement. He said New York City has been busing migrants to communities upstate, including in New York’s 19th Congressional District.
“Counties like Broome County have responded by declaring states of emergency to stop NYC from sending migrants,” Molinaro said.
In Congress, Molinaro, a Republican, voted to pass a border security and immigration reform bill and joined Democrat Pat Ryan (NY-18) and Republican Mike Lawler (NY-17) in calling for President Biden to declare a federal state of emergency, and authored and passed bipartisan legislation to prevent Governor Hochul from transforming K-12 schools into migrant shelters.
New York’s 19th Congressional District includes Sullivan, Broome, Chenango, Columbia, Cortland, Delaware, Greene, Tioga, and Tompkins counties as well as part of Otsego County and Ulster County.
