Congressman Molinaro forces House vote to strengthen Social Security

BINGHAMTON, NY — Delivering a campaign promise to protect Social Security, Congressman Marc Molinaro signed on Thursday, September 19 a bipartisan discharge petition that will force a vote in Congress on the Social Security Fairness Act.

The bipartisan bill strengthens Social Security by fixing the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pensions Offset (GPO). These 1980s-era federal laws can result in massive cuts or total elimination of a retiree’s Social Security benefits.

Congressman Molinaro said, “Like millions of seniors my mom relies on Social Security. I’m forcing a vote so every senior gets the benefits they earned.”

Congressman Molinaro has been a leading advocate for Social Security and Medicare in Congress and has stopped cuts to both programs. For his work, AARP has thanked Molinaro.
