Mental health counseling available in Narrowsburg

NARROWSBURG, NY — Openings are available at Choices Mental Health Counseling, located in the Narrowsburg Union, for confidential clinical mental health counseling services for people with substance use disorders and mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, family/relationship or work-related concerns.

Thomas Rue sees adults and teenagers aged 12 and up, as well as offering couples counseling and family therapy (LGBTQ+ are welcome).

Coverage by major commercial insurance and employee assistance programs is accepted, including NYS managed care Medicaid plans (MVP, HealthFirst, Fidelis) and employee assistance programs provided by many employers.

The office is located in Room 206-B at the Union, 7 Erie Ave. Clients attend in person or on Zoom or Doximity.

Group therapy (up to five sessions per week) is offered virtually when it is clinically indicated. If sufficient interest arises for an in-person group to occur regularly in the Narrowsburg Union, that option will be added.

Toxicology monitoring for substance use disorders, using a certified lab, can be provided in person (urine or saliva) or virtually (oral swab).

Referrals from health care providers should indicate the reason for the referral. Fax or email any records that the referring clinician thinks would be helpful to give an understanding of the issue.

Hospitals and rehabs are asked to fax or email a packet of records that they would typically send to an aftercare provider (psychosocial assessment, progress summary, discharge plan, discharge plan, medication list and prescriber's name, etc.)

Probation, parole and drug court referrals (in New York or Pennsylvania) should provide whatever information is needed and available to give an understanding of the situation.

Referrals by attorneys or courts should be accompanied by documents relevant to the behavior that led to the referral, as well as the person's contact info and insurance coverage. If possible, any referral should include contact information for the person being referred, their insurance plan (and number if known), and any other information.

Rue is a NYS OASAS-approved provider of impaired driver assessments and treatment. If a report is needed by a particular date, include that in the referral and where it should be sent.

Rue is a qualified Substance Abuse Provider (SAP) with the US Department of Transportation for CDL truck drivers and other safety-sensitive employees who have had a DOT drug/alcohol violation. (This service is not covered by health insurance. The SAP fee is ordinarily paid by the employee with the violation.)

As a mental health care counselor, Rue believes that a willingness to accept health insurance reimbursement as payment for services is a social justice concern, since most Americans who have insurance need to use it to obtain the services and treatment they require, and they may not be able to afford to self-pay.

He is in the process of applying to plans in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to allow him to accept coverage from plans on the western side of the Delaware River.

Self-payment is accepted too.
