Liz Hamilton Quay’s work exhibited at Peters Valley

LAYTON, NJ — Peters Valley School of Craft will hold a solo exhibition of Liz Hamilton Quay’s work, titled “Delicate Resilience.” The exhibition will be in the Sally D. Francisco Gallery from Saturday, March 9 through Saturday, March 30.

The exhibition showcases sculptural fiber art. Quay describes her work as follows: “Conceptually, my work is based on the tension or the stagnation that is generated through managing emotional balance. My work is deeply focused on the clashing of soft and hard; the transformation of plain or seemingly ugly materials to reveal their beautiful and delicate qualities; and monotonous layering of stitch, which gives new life to flat fabrics.”

Quay is also the assistant professor of textiles and materials studies at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. Her artistic repertoire encompasses a variety of techniques, spanning from traditional fibers to experimental sculpture.

Select works will also be accompanied by an audio component in which the artist describes the pieces while highlighting key elements she wants viewers to remember. These will be accessible via QR codes next to each piece.

In addition, there will be a virtual showcase that allows visitors to guide themselves through the exhibition from anywhere.

The gallery at Peters Valley School of Craft is located at 19 Kuhn Rd., and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Quay’s work can be viewed online after March 9 at www.petersvalleygallery.org
