EVERYWHERE — Andrew Kay, CEO and founder of the World Literacy Foundation says that “51 percent of children from low-income homes in New York don’t own a single book and 46 percent of them struggle to read. We are asking people to raise their voices about the importance of literacy in their local community on World Literacy Day 2023.”
The World Literacy Foundation supports literacy around the world all year long to ensure that all children—especially the most marginalized—have access to quality books, resources and educational tools in order to gain the foundational literacy skills they need.
Each year on September 8, people celebrate World Literacy Day/International Literacy Day.
The foundation’s focus for World Literacy Day 2023 is to support girls in Afghanistan who were banned from reading books and attending schools in 2022.
