Liberty man arrested for attempted murder

Posted

LIBERTY, NY — On Tuesday, May 9 at approximately 9:35 p.m. officers with the Village of Liberty Police Department responded to North Main Street for a report of an injured female. Upon officers' arrival, it became apparent that the female had been the victim of an assault and had sustained multiple lacerations and puncture wounds as a result of being stabbed. The female was transported by Mobile Medic Ambulance to a Medivac Helicopter and flown to Westchester Medical Center where she was treated for multiple injuries.

Liberty Police Officers began investigating and within minutes located the suspect on Lincoln Place in the Village of Liberty. After a short foot pursuit officers apprehended Jesse Rubio, 24 of Liberty.

Investigation revealed that Rubio had assaulted the female by stabbing her multiple times with a knife that was later recovered by police. Rubio also stole a phone belonging to the victim and attempted to dispose of evidence prior to being apprehended. Rubio was charged with attempted murder in the 2nd degree, robbery in the 1st degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, and tampering with physical evidence, all felonies. Rubio was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail.

Criminal charges are merely allegations that a defendant has committed violations of the criminal law, and as such they are not evidence of guilt. All defendants have a presumption of innocence and are entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
