MILFORD, PA ― Elder Justice Day, held annually by the Pike County Area Agency on Aging (AAA), gathers professionals from across the state to provide presentations on various topics pertinent to older adults.

The 10th annual Elder Justice Day is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Matamoras Senior Center.

Elder Justice Day offers educational and engaging presentations combined with activities designed to educate older adults on various topics related to aging.

This year’s event will focus on self-care.

In addition to guest speakers, many local organizations will be available to offer information and answer questions on the services they provide. The Drug Take Back program will also be present, so attendees can safely dispose of unwanted, unused or expired medications.

“Elder Justice Day is designed with the needs of our seniors in mind,” said Tracy Simon, protective service. “The Elder Abuse Task Force books speakers who can provide information on topics that are currently trending among the senior community as well as the topics seniors have expressed interest in learning more about.”

Reservations are required. Registration is free and includes a light breakfast, lunch and one ticket for the door prize drawing.

The senior center is located at the Matamoras Fire House, 506 Avenue Q.

To register, call the AAA office at 570/775-5550.

If you require transportation, call Pike County Transportation at 570/296-3408 to coordinate a ride.

Elder Justice Day is organized by the Pike County Elder Abuse Task Force. The task force was established in 2013 to educate the public about recognizing, preventing and reporting cases of elder abuse.

If you know or suspect that an elderly person is being harmed, call the task force at 800/490-8505. Reports are taken 24 hours a day.
