Lacawac to recognize honorees for 2023

LAKE ARIEL, PA — Lacawac Sanctuary Field Station and Environmental Education Center will celebrate the eighth annual Farm to Plate fundraising gala at Watres Lodge at Lacawac on Saturday, August 12.

This year’s event is presented by the Scranton Area Community Foundation, and the dinner sponsor is Brookfield Renewable US.

Each year Lacawac honors community members and those who have helped shaped Lacawac’s future. This year, Lacawac’s dinner committee and Board of Trustees have chosen to honor the following:

Mark and Courtney Peterson received a Lifetime Achievement Award for preservation. The Petersons donated their land to Lacawac. They appreciate land conservation and realize how important it is to protect undeveloped habitats that are needed for wild animals to survive and thrive and trees to grow, according to a news release.

The Scranton Area Community Foundation received the Corporation of the Year Award. The foundation has distributed over $7 million in grants and scholarships in 2022, and offers charitable planning tools such as donor-advised funds, charitable gift annuities, scholarship funds and charitable trusts.

The Logan family of the French Manor received the Person[s] of the Year Award.

The family purchased the French Manor Inn and Spa in 1990. Daughters Genevieve (Logan) Reese and Bridget (Logan) Weber have since taken over the business and have added a green spa and a new restaurant.

The French Manor staff, as well as Reese and Weber, have distributed food during the pandemic, created (with help from the Wayne County Community Foundation) the Newfoundland Library Community Fund, and served on boards.

The French Manor strives to be a steward for the environment, the news release said, ensuring that the planet is cared for. This is why Lacawac Sanctuary is such a priority to the philanthropic ideology of the Logan family, and why they choose to be a major donor each year to this organization.

Tickets are available online at www.Lacawac.org.
