WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Senate on Nov. 9 overturned President Biden’s temporary waiver to electric vehicle (EV) charging station manufacturers.
The White House plans to veto the bill since it may delay its hoped-for jumpstart to EV adoption nationwide. The chargers are paid for by taxpayers through the bipartisan infrastructure bill.
The waiver would allow manufacturers to buy steel and iron for the chargers until July 2024 while still qualifying for government grants.
Senators voted 50-48 to approve the Republican-backed bill overturning the waiver. Republicans were joined by U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA).
“By forever hindering our nation’s ability to become less reliant on Chinese manufacturing of EV chargers, this resolution would do irreparable damage to American workers and manufacturing,” he said.
