MONTICELLO, NY — Jack Luster of Monticello, NY, is among 91 awardees from across the state honored on Older New Yorkers’ Day, held on Nov. 3.

“Jack Luster radiates positivity with a smile that uplifts those around him,” said the statement announcing his honor. “He is known for soothing hearts and souls with his music and genuine warmth.”

Luster’s many volunteer activities include affiliations with the Mended Hearts Association, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Sullivan County, food distributions for the less fortunate, Ronald McDonald House, Camp Simcha, Catholic Charities, and performing on the flute during Christmas Mass. He also lends his saxophone talents to food pantries and homeless shelters, while playing the flute at the local synagogue and crafting balloon animals at Marie’s Park in Woodbourne, NY.

Born in Miami, Luster moved at age 5 to Monticello, where his parents established the West End Diner. After living in New York City between the ages of 20 and 32, he returned to Monticello when his father fell ill.

“You receive back more than you give,” Luster said.
