Howard “David” Bertsch, 76, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away on April 10, 2023. David was the son of the late August and Dorothy (Slick) Bertsch. He was born May 7, 1946 in Honesdale, PA.

David was the owner of Bertsch Contracting in Milford, PA. He was a member of the Highland Field and Stream Club and the Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club, and the White Game Club in Shohola, PA.

A family statement reads: “David was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and great-uncle; and spending time with family was his joy and priority. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed all sports, but favored Nascar. He loved traveling with his wife and they always enjoyed a good meal. He would work the room no matter where they were; he was a true conversationalist. David also was a talented businessman; his mind was always moving on to new ways to make money and do things more efficiently. Dad will be forever cherished in our hearts and lovingly remembered by all.”

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dona (Westfall) Bertsch; four children: Colleen Meerdink of Eldred, NY; William Bertsch and his wife Dawn of Shohola; Sean Bertsch and his wife Laura of Freehold, NJ; and Thomas Bertsch and his wife Tara of Milford; six grandchildren: Nicole Gilbert Nedd and her husband Aaron Nedd, Kyle Bertsch, Trevor Bertsch, Matthew Bertsch, Connor Bertsch and Tristen Bertsch; three great-grandchildren: Aleah Nedd, Alyssa Nedd and Ariana Nedd; brother Gary Bertsch of Bethlehem, PA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend Albee, a seven-year-old Westmoreland.

David is predeceased by his brothers, Theodore Bertsch and Daniel Bertsch; and his sister, Susan Bertsch.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 10 am to 12 noon at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home 3412 SR97, Barryville, NY 12719 845-557-8010.
