PORT JERVIS, NY — Hot Wrk Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 23 at UpFront Exhibition Space.
It’s part of the “Groove Port” series of performances.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The saxophone/woodwind and percussion trio was founded in 2020 by the award‐winning musicians J. Brooks Marcus (J Why), Lois Hicks‐Wozniak and Brad Hubbard.
The name is an homage to Olivia Kieffer’s composition “Hot Work.”
Hot Wrk uses diverse, genre‐eclectic chamber grooves that include collaborative improvisation. Both asking and answering the question, “What is chamber music?,” Hot Wrk “explores, deconstructs and works out concepts of traditional chamber music and the concert experience,” UpFront wrote.
Hot Wrk’s programs can include Scarlatti, Son Jalisciense, Bossa Nova, Funk, free jazz, prepared electronics and original compositions by ensemble members.
Hot Wrk Ensemble says it believes that chamber music can be a voice for change by engaging communities to interact with and partake in the creation process—breaking systemic barriers that have placed classical and jazz in niche markets.
UpFront is located at 31 Jersey Ave.
