Honesdale Borough Police Officers were called to the area of Turkey Hill on Main Street, for a report that a male individual was intoxicated and was knocking over trash cans near the building. This occurred on 05/21/13, at approximately 4:01 a.m. The male seemed to be agitated and on a rampage according to witnesses.
Officers located the individual who initially refused to identify himself to Borough Officers, but was later identified as ROBERT VESSECCHIA age 30 from the Honesdale area. VESSECCHIA was placed under arrest and transported to the police station.
An investigation revealed that approximately 25 trash cans and 11 U.S. Postal Service mailboxes were knocked over around the downtown area. Garbage was strewn about the downtown area from the containers. While in police custody VESSECCHIA was disorderly and kicked a door in the booking area causing damage.
VESSECCHIA was charged with 1 count of Criminal Mischief, 1 count of Institutional Vandalism, 1 count of Disorderly Conduct all misdemeanors and 1 count of Public Drunkenness a summary offense.
VESSECCHIA was arraigned by MDJ Ronald Edwards and failed to post $2,500 bail. He was incarcerated in the Wayne County Correctional facility, pending a Central Court appearance.
The US Postal Inspection Service in Scranton was notified. They responded and will conduct their own independent investigation.
