ROCK VALLEY, NY — Heroes of Toolik is an acoustic, avant-folk inflected new music group and the band will perform at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 28 at the Rock Valley Schoolhouse.
The band's influences range from Steve Reich and Captain Beefheart to Golden Palominos. Guitarist Arad Evans (who played with Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham) and violinist Jennifer Coates anchor the band, composing and sharing vocals. Moppa Elliott (of jazz group Mostly Other People Do The Killing) joins on stand-up bass and avant-garde musician Rohin Khemani plays percussion. John Specklends his Latin Grammy-nominated chops on trombone.

This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Re-grant Program, a program of the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support from the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. The schoolhouse would also like to thank its fiscal sponsor, ENGN.

The admission cost is a donation of $10.

The Rock Valley Schoolhouse is located at 9178 County Highway 28.  Take Route 97 North from Callicoon. Go 7.5 miles, turn right onto 134 after Basket Bridge. Continue on 134 (it changes into 28), approximately 3.5 miles. The Rock Valley Schoolhouse will be on the left on a grassy slope. Parking is on the road.
For more information, call  917/612-8585.
