WAYNE COUNTY, PA — In this section of the Delaware River Valley, winter lasts well into April. To combat high fuel prices, many homeowners continue to use firewood as their main or supplemental source of fuel to heat their homes.
Many have limited supplies of firewood remaining after months of burning wood. To help economically stressed homeowners, the Professional Forest Industry Association (ProFIA) is calling for applicants for its Fuel for Friends program.
During the winter season, ProFIA donates and delivers a free cord of firewood to each approved recipient during this time of year.
ProFIA is asking the public to nominate individuals and families that use wood to heat their homes and could have trouble paying for fuel this winter.
ProFIA is a local organization dedicated to the proper management of our forests and the education of its members as well as the local community and legislators. Members are made up of local foresters, timber harvesters, log buyers and sawmill owners.
To nominate people to participate in the Fuel for Friends program, write to the Professional Forest Industry Association, PO Box 81, Honesdale, PA 18431.
Contributed by ProFIA.
