LIBERTY, NY — On Thursday, September 14 at 6 p.m., the Liberty Public Library will host Maria Failla, author of “Growing a Book: How Losing a Job Led to Publishing a Book.”

The event, said the library, is for aspiring authors, writers and anyone curious about how books are made and published.

In 2020, Maria Failla lost her job and her apartment, and then her wedding was canceled. Less than two years later, her podcast “Growing Joy with Plants” had over two million downloads, and she was offered a book deal with a major publisher, according to a press release.

Failla will discuss how she went from plant killer to plant whisperer, and how her book “Growing Joy: The Plant Lover’s Guide to Cultivating Happiness (and Plants)” was grown along the way.

She will also answer pressing plant care questions and give tips on growing joy in everyday life. Of course, there will be plants—attendees will be entered in a raffle to win greenery to take home.
