HURLEYVILLE, NY — When the second annual Hurleyville Summer Festival kicked off last Thursday, the sun was shining and the town was buzzing. Food vendors, craft artists, and live music had transformed the sleepy hamlet into a bustling playground.

And then the sky grew dark.

Little Sparrow was halfway through a rocking set of songs by Neil Young, Stevie Wonder and the Grateful Dead when the rains came down. Minutes later, everything was soaked and the crowds were gone.

“We were having a blast,” said Carol Smith of Little Sparrow. “The Festival is an amazing event, organized by a very dedicated group of Hurleyville residents and businesses.”

So this Friday, August 25, the band—which includes Aldo Troiani on guitar and vocals, Jeff Anderson on bass and Sullivan West student Henry Simon on guitar and vocals—will finish its set from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sullivan County Museum. Pizza and snacks will be available, and the museum will be open for tours.

And while you are there, try out the new ping-pong table, purchased as a nod to the great game rooms of the Borscht Belt hotels.

The program is sponsored by the Frederick Cook Society. The Sullivan County Museum is located at 265 Main St., Hurleyville. Call 845/434-8044 for more information.
