ATHENS, GA -- Researchers at the University of Georgia Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health report that feral hogs have been spotted in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Wild hogs are among the most destructive invasive animal species in the U.S., capable of reaching five feet in length and weighing as much as 400 pounds. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, hogs cause approximately $2.5 billion in agricultural damages each year.
The animal’s range has expanded more westward and northward over time. States like California, Hawaii, and Michigan now have fairly large feral hog populations as well.
