DEERPARK, NY — On August 19, 2023, at approximately 6:55 p.m., Troopers from the Greenville barracks (Orange County) responded to the intersection of State Route 209 and Third Street in the town of Deerpark for a report of a motorcycle/pick-up collision.  Upon arrival Troopers observed a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle underneath a 2013 Toyota-Tundra. The operator of the motorcycle, identified as David J. Castner, age 54 from Highland Lakes, New Jersey was receiving medical attention from Cuddeback Fire Department Medics, Port Jervis Ambulance EMS, and Port Jervis Police Officers. David Castner was transported by Port Jervis Ambulance to Garnet Health Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.

An investigation into the fatal crash on August 19, 2023, revealed that the operator of the 2013 Toyota Tundra was making a left hand turn from Prospect Hill Road on to  State Route 209 north when he failed to yield the right of way and made a left hand turn in front of a 2000 Harley-Davidson that was traveling south on State Route 209. David Castner, the operator of the motorcycle, attempted to avoid the pick-up truck when the collision occurred.
