Exploring the universe and the possible at CAS

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — Artists Christina Day, Gina Snow Magid and Raphaele Shirley will exhibit new work at the Catskill Art Space until Saturday, February 24.

The exhibition will be on view in the ground floor galleries of Catskill Art Space, 48 Main St.

Exhibition hours are Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Day has created an interior domestic space within the gallery. Viewers are able to use only a specific sightline, wide enough for one.

Day’s found materials are used to enhance the meaning of the objects in the past and now.

Her work, titled “Depth Cue,” is named for the way humans judge distance between objects, relative to space and time.

Snow Magid’s work “expresses the non-verbal, seemingly illogical undercurrent, which connects all things,” a CAS spokesperson said. She examines humanity, emphasizing dual nature: conscious/subconscious, chaos/structure, creation/destruction and more.

Shirley explores the representation of the universe through neon, sculpture, performance and more. This investigation has generated light sculptures, time-based installations and live performances. Drawing from architecture, science and art history as well as from wind, water and light, Shirley explores the possible, the spokesperson said.

Catskill Art Space (CAS) explores contemporary art practices of emerging and established artists. The center offers exhibitions, performances, classes, lectures and screenings.
