August 1 meeting brings project partners together

CALLICOON, NY — The Callicoon Business Association, in collaboration with project partners Callicoon Depot Inc. and the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway, announce a public town hall meeting to discuss and gather valuable community feedback on the highly anticipated Callicoon Train Depot Visitor Center project. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1 at the Delaware Youth Center.

Tim Bruno, WJFF Radio Catskill general manager, will facilitate the event. “I look forward to participating in this thoughtful community conversation about the Train Depot Visitor Center Project to understand residents’ attitudes, opinion and needs. As a Callicoon resident, I am particularly thrilled to see the depot’s revitalization as an appealing destination in the heart of the hamlet,” Bruno said.

This project aims to restore the historic Callicoon Train Depot and convert it into a dynamic community asset.

The town hall meeting will serve as an essential platform for community members to learn about the project’s history, plans, timeline and details. Participants will have an opportunity to offer their insights and suggestions and to actively participate in shaping the future of the Callicoon Depot. The project seeks to create a space that will not only house the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway (UDSB) Visitor Center but also serve as a versatile community hub for cultural, artistic, civic and educational activities, all while fostering a sense of community and regional pride.

A panel of project partners will be available to provide expert insights and answer questions:

Nicole Vallance, president of the Callicoon Business Association, will outline the overall project goals and its significance as it relates to local businesses and the community.

Wendee Greene, president of Callicoon Depot Inc., the project’s development and programming partner, will share details of the restoration process, timelines, current plans and some options for the activation of the train depot.

Richard Lowe, chair of the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway, will discuss the importance of the UDSB having a dedicated visitor center, the choice of location and the collaborative efforts that have made this project a reality, and its alignment with broader regional goals.
