Ensemble Melange Promises Old-Fashioned Musical Fun

Posted by Bigsky1952

Everything seems to be interactive these days. Our phones, our televisions, our games. But when was the last time you went to a world-class interactive concert?

That’s exactly what the audience at the Shandelee Music Festival’s Sunset Concert on Tuesday, August 13 will experience. It’s an “Evening of Interactive Chamber Music” featuring the Mélange Chamber Ensemble.

The Mélange Chamber Ensemble is a joyful sextet of all-star virtuosos that forges a personal connection with the audience, and mixes tried-and-true repertoire with a smorgasbord of jewels from distant genres. The concert is staged as a musician's party game; after each piece, members of the audience are chosen to pick the next piece from an extensive menu organized by style, nationality and time period. Appropriate for audiences from eight to 80, it’s an evening of old-fashioned musical fun.

The Mélange Chamber Ensemble is comprised of Ariadne Greif (soprano), Stuart Breczinski (oboe), Grace Park (violin), Moran Katz (clarinet), Sofia Nowik (cello) and Mika Sasaki (piano). They have performed across the U.S., Canada and the Middle East, and from Carnegie Hall in NYC to Brigham Young University Hall in Jerusalem.

The program includes classical music of a wide variety, some jazz, innovative arrangements of tango and musical theater, and compositions written specifically for the Ensemble.

“Without a doubt, this is a brilliant idea. … This sort of active participation from the audience … leads to higher and deeper levels of alertness and listening ...” – Yon Feder, Tel Aviv, Ynet. "Let them take you on a magical time-traveling musical tour!" – Joanne Maurno, Buck Hill Skytop Music Festival

The Tuesday, August 13 concert “An Evening of Interactive Chamber Music featuring the Mélange Chamber Ensemble” will be performed at the Shandelee Music Festival’s fully accessible, climate controlled Sunset Concert Pavilion, located at 442 J. Young Road, Livingston Manor.

All performances in the Sunset Concert Series begin at 8 p.m. and will be followed by a specialty dessert reception.
