The school board and budget elections of Tuesday, May 16 have produced preliminary results.
The ballot had three questions on it: whether to fund the budget, whether to fund the Sunshine Library and whether four of the board of education's five seats be changed, at a rate of one per election after 2023, into four-year seats, with the one to remain a five-year seat.
All three questions passed. 139 people voted in favor of the budget, and 50 voted against it. 155 voted in favor of the Sunshine Library's funding, and 34 voted against it. 162 voted in favor of changing the school board terms, and 27 voted against it.
One seat, currently held by board president Scott Hallock, was up for election. Hallock retained his seat with 173 votes; the other three votes cast went to Ann Santoro, Beth Deyermond and Donald Trump respectively.
Sullivan West had two propositions on its ballot, whether to approve the budget and whether to have a high school student serve as a non-voting member of the school board.
Both propositions passed: 317 people voted in favor of the budget, with 96 people voting against, and 354 people voted in favor of the student school board position, with 52 voting against.
Three candidates were seeking re-election to the school board: Jennifer Nystrom, Matthew Halloran and Kathleen Meckle. Each won their seat: Nystrom won 324 votes, Halloran won 322 votes and Meckle won 309 votes.
