LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — Based on the banned book that inspired Orwell’s “1984,” and hailed by Margaret Atwood (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) as “one of the most important dystopias of the twentieth century,” “WE” will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 28 and 29; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 30 at the Delaware Valley Opera Center.
The co-production of River Rep Theatre and the Delaware Valley Opera “transports us to the futuristic totalitarian society of OneState, ruled over by the all-powerful Benefactor,” a spokesperson said.
The Delaware Opera Center is located at 6692 State Rte. 52.
It’s based on the book “We,” by Yevgeny Zamyatin.
Tickets cost $30 and can be purchased at www.riverrep.org/productions.
SCRANTON, PA — The latest performance from the Scranton Fringe Festival is Icke and Macmillan’s adaptation of George Orwell’s “1984,” to be performed at the Lackawanna College Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, July 27, 28 and 29; and also at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Scranton Fringe actors are preparing to deliver a thought-provoking and immersive experience that explores themes of freedom, government control and the shape of reality, a spokesperson said.
The theatre is located at 501 Vine St.
Tickets cost $22 and can be purchased at scrantonfringe.org.
