FALLSBURG, NY — The conservation police in New York responded to an early morning call on Sept. 21 of a shot fired in a field in the town of Fallsburg.

The caller had prior run-ins with poachers on his property provide a license plate number, vehicle description, and direction of travel.

Officers Jordan Doroski and Aric Boyes recovered the targeted deer and located the suspect vehicle at a nearby house. The officers charged the shooter with trespassing, using an artificial light to take deer, taking deer out of season and after hours, possessing a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, and hunting without a license. The shooter’s rifle, spotlight, and the deer were seized.

The first day of hunting season in Sullivan County is Saturday, Nov. 18. The conservation department urges hikers to wear blaze orange or blaze pink to be visible to hunters.
