De La Pagina Workshop at NACL

Posted by bradkrumholz

Poet/Performer/Educator/Activist Modesto "Flako" Jimenez will lead participants in a process of creating and performing poetic text using a variety of styles, based on the theme of "Place/Displacement and Artistic Responsibility." The 2-day workshop will include food and will culminate in an invited public showing of the work created.

Sessions will begin on Friday evening from 6-9pm and continue on Saturday for the duration of the day, ending with a performance at 6pm, followed by a community supper. Open to all; no experience necessary. Enrollment limit is 15.

Flako is a master performer and teacher, who has been making poetry into performance for the last 20 years, both in New York City and internationally. Through his Oye Group and his performance Taxilandia, he has been deeply invested in helping "non-artists" find and grow the art in and from themselves, in celebration of the poetic parts that exist in us all. In this workshop, Flako is intensely interested in hearing stories from our community and helping participants to craft their own experience of place and personal history into the stuff of poetic performance. In Flako, you will find a playful and generous soul unlike any you have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
