MONTICELLO, NY — On July 17,  a Sullivan County Jury found Jacob McCoy, 50, guilty of two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, Class B Felonies, following a three-day trial.

The jury found that on November 28, 2023, McCoy possessed one-half ounce of the narcotic drug Fentanyl with the intent to sell it. McCoy, who has three prior felony convictions, faces nine years’ incarceration in state prison and is due to be sentenced on September 25. This case was prosecuted at trial by District Attorney Brian P. Conaty with the assistance of Assistant District Attorney Halley Hiatt. McCoy was represented by attorney Matthew Mahan.

Sheriff Mike Schiff said that McCoy’s arrest was the result of a two-month undercover investigation by his office’s Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Unit into the sale of fentanyl in the Monticello area. A search warrant was executed at a room at the Monticello Inn on November 28, 2023, where McCoy was the sole occupant and drugs were recovered.

Sullivan County District Attorney Brian P. Conaty said, “Fentanyl continues to destroy the good people and communities that I serve each and every day.  I want the community to know that I remain focused on my office’s commitment to end the distribution of Fentanyl here. "

"I want to thank the Sullivan County Jury for their attention and dedication to this case.  Their verdict reaffirms the voice of Sullivan County that if you sell fentanyl in our communities you will be held accountable.  I also want to thank the members of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office Investigators for their dedicated efforts in this investigation, in bringing the defendant to justice.”
