Commemorating the Battle of Minisink

Posted

REGION — The Battle of Minisink was the only battle of the Revolutionary War to be fought in the Upper Delaware Valley, and it was a resounding victory for the British.

It took place on July 22, 1779, and resulted in the deaths of 45 to 50 men on the Patriot side and possibly seven on the British/Loyalist side, according to the Minisink Valley Historical Society.

The battle will be commemorated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 22 at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Lackawaxen, PA. Sue Gardner, deputy historian for the Town of Warwick, will be the keynote speaker, according to the Wayne Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

The Delaware Company will host a second event at 4 p.m. that day at the Minisink Battleground Park, Barryville, NY.

It’s a chance to pay tribute to those who fought for American independence, and to those who fought at Minisink, said John Conway, president of the Delaware Company.

The DAR will be present at both events.
