Celebrating history and Woodstock at Kauneonga Lake

KAUNEONGA LAKE, NY — Join the Borscht Belt Historical Marker Project for a marker dedication and celebration on Saturday, August 17.

On Saturday, find the Marker Project lakeside at Kauneonga Lake’s Gazebo Park. Dedication speakers include photographer Elliott Landy—the official photographer of Woodstock and one of the foremost music photographers of his time.

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts will be on site as part of their oral history initiative, recording people’s memories of the Woodstock concert. Peace of Stage, which saved part of the stage from the concert, will be in attendance with an authenticated piece of the historic stage.

The schedule

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Record your Borscht Belt and Woodstock stories with Bethel Woods Museum at the Kauneonga Lake Farmers Market, located at the Veteran’s Park triangle (3594 Rte. 55).

2 p.m.: Marker dedication, just up the block at Gazebo Park (3562 Rte. 55)

2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Dancing, refreshments and crafts at Gazebo Park, or step on a piece of the original stage.

This dedication is free and open to all.

The Borscht Belt Historical Marker Project is a group of locals, artists and historians dedicated to commemorating the history of the Borscht Belt, a celebrated era in American Jewish life, American culture and Catskill history.
