August stargazing event at Grey Towers

Posted

MILFORD, PA — A stargazing event will take place from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 31 at Grey Towers National Historic Site.

It’s a chance to experience the night sky and learn from U.S. Forest Service Rangers and guest speaker George Preoteasa about the stars above. If the sky is clear, you can try to spot the major constellations visible this time of year: the Big and Little Dipper, Cygnus the swan, Lyra the harp and Aquila the eagle. The planet Saturn might also be visible.

Rangers will share a variety of constellation stories, and you can learn about nocturnal animals, why darkness is important and how light can pollute.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket, flashlight and binoculars.

There is no charge for student tickets, and adult tickets cost $5 per person.

Register at www.greytowers.org/event/star-gazing-on-the-east-lawn.

Dress accordingly for weather and terrain. For additional information, visit www.facebook.com/GreyTowersNHS, www.fs.usda.gov/Greytowers or call 570/296-9630.
