Celebrate the Dog Days with a dog walk

SOUTH FALLSBURG, NY — Come out and celebrate the dog days of summer at the third annual Bow WO&W Dog Walk on Thursday, August 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the new tunnel bypass segment of the Sullivan O&W Rail Trail.

You’ll meet at the trailhead next to the Dogpatch Town Park, which is located at 14 Old Country Rd.

At 5 p.m., there will be a ribbon cutting hosted by the Town of Fallsburg to officially open this new 1.1-mile section of the Sullivan O&W Rail Trail.

“The Town of Fallsburg is thrilled to be the host of this year’s BowWO&W Dog Walk starting at the new Dogpatch Town Park. Town staff from the Highway Department and Parks Department worked very hard to create this trail over the past year, and they did a phenomenal job,” said town supervisor Michael Bensimon. “This new trail will eventually connect to a planned pedestrian bridge and boardwalk over the Neversink River where the old train trestle used to be.”

“Be advised that this new trail is not flat like the rest of the O&W Rail Trail, so be prepared to tackle some hills and moderately steep grades,” said Shannon Cilento of Sullivan 180, a member of the Sullivan O&W Rail Trail Alliance.

Even if you don’t plan to hike the trail, everyone is encouraged to bring their dog and enjoy the dog park. Dog-related vendors and organizations—including Catskill Animal Rescue, Catskill Veterinary Services, Great Companion Dog Training, and Lilly Bear Treats, just to name a few—will also have tables at the park.
