WAYNE COUNTY, PA — Penn State Extension’s Master Watershed Steward program will hold its fifth annual native tree and shrub sale this fall in 27 locations across the state, including in Wayne County. 

As a fundraiser for the program, the sale offers 18 varieties of native trees and shrubs. Organizers will accept orders through Wednesday, August 28, with curbside pickup available in September or October. Pickup dates and times vary by location. 

Master watershed stewards plant trees to intercept and infiltrate stormwater, stabilize soils and filter pollutants. Whether residents seek trees for privacy, foliage or shade; to attract pollinators or to create a beautiful landscape, organizers note that the program offers a variety of trees and shrubs. 

Trees and shrubs will be available in one-gallon containers for $20, two-gallon containers for $30 or three-gallon containers for $40. 

Master watershed stewards guarantee a healthy specimen at pickup. Due to variations in planting, site conditions and care, no guarantee or refunds are possible after tree pickup. 

Organizers encourage residents to consider above- and below-ground utilities and mature growth size when choosing a tree for their property—and to always to call 811 before digging.

Details about each tree—such as average mature height, sun and soil-moisture needs, and bloom time—are outlined on the order website. 

Orders can be placed online or by phone for a one-day curbside pickup in the fall. All items must be preordered. Plants will not be available for purchase at pickup sites. Funds from the sale will support the Master Watershed Steward activities in that region. 

The program offers pickup locations in many counties, including Wayne, Lackawanna and Susquehanna.
