CALLICOON, NY — Artwalk 2024 will be held on Sunday, October 13th, from 12 noon to 8 pm. It showcases the artistic spirit of community in the picturesque hamlet of Callicoon on the Delaware. Local art, performances and workshops take place in unconventional spaces throughout the hamlet including storefronts, public spaces and the town jewel, the Callicoon Train Depot.

The mission of the Callicoon Artwalk is to support the continued growth of the local art and music scene by attracting locals and tourists alike to experience our vibrant creator community. This event is free and open to the public and is a major force for developing cultural initiatives in the Hamlet of Callicoon and Sullivan County.

Catch a sneak peek of the artist’s work on Saturday night as many participating businesses will be staying open a little later for an early preview of the art to be displayed throughout Callicoon.

Festivities officially kick off on Sunday at noon with 50+ local artists display paintings, drawings, photographs, ceramics, sculptures and video and a full day of live music, theatre performances, film screenings, workshops, artist meet & greets, book signings and more! A handy map will be distributed with the full schedule of programming, work on view and participating locations.

The Callicoon Theater is once again screening “Fantastical Films,” a block of short films curated by local photographer, illustrator, painter, multimedia artist and curator, Elizabeth Ennis, from 11am until 1pm. See films from local filmmakers: Donald & Robyn Almquist, Marcus Brooks, Elizabeth Ennis, Tessa Hughes-Freeland, Evie McKenna, Michel Nergropnte and Jim Stratton. Please note, this activity is not suitable for children. Farm Arts Collective takes over the theater later in the day with a spectacular multi-media presentation of live music and film footage of the first five years of Dream on the Farm. The ensemble will perform live on stage with a montage of film footage of performances from 2020-2024 on the big screen.

Stop by the Depot between 12-4 pm to be a part of a large-scale Community Weaving Installation with Lockwood Creation Studio and explore, “how in a community—we are all connected.” Completed work to be displayed in the Callicoon Depot. Drop by early with the kiddos—the first 50 will receive a Kid’s Scavenger Hunt Passport to complete and return for a prize. There will also be an Apple Drawing Contest at the Seminary Hill Cider booth. Pick up some supplies and inspiration and return your pieces by 4 pm for judging—prizes for ‘under 12’, ‘teen’ and ‘adult’ categories will be announced at 4:30 pm.

Poison Love Band gets the music started on the Callicoon Depot Main Stage with their fiddle-driven Acoustic Americana, followed by Callicoon Station, voted 2024 BEST Band (River Reporter) will keep you rocking, while Lucas Maehara Rotman performs his deeply personal version of Americana from the Artwalk Mobile Stage at the Callicoon Farmers’ Market.

Also, in Callicoon Creek Park, see Kelly Simons’ 24-foot interventionist installation set within the natural landscape, encouraging quiet contemplation on ageism, sexism and visibility.

At 3 pm bring the kids and your sense of wonder to the Depot for “A Clowning Workshop for All Ages” with Clown Daddy Presents, an actress-turned-clown with a penchant for physical comedy and vaudevillian shenanigans. World-beat, global & jazz percussionist, Obi Kaye performs at the ENGN Weigh Station, followed by the ethereal tones of Matthew Hoffman’s Jazz Vibraphone.

The music continues on the Callicoon Depot Stage from 3:30 pm on, with Cloud Cover: The Music of Kathy Geary; psychedelic-pop producer, drummer, keyboardist and singer, Janna Pelle; the bluegrass and folksy vibes of Lolli & The Pops; Caswyn Moon’s punky, yet melodic Americana and Faith Kelly’s spacey-folk, Appalachian flavored rock'n'roll.

Stop by the Callicoon Depot Pop-up Gallery, curated by artist Malik Titus Bridges, featuring work by ten artists, plus performances by two-time OBIE winner Steve Mellor, performing an excerpt from Jerry Lieblich’s “hilariously gruesome” ‘Mahinerator’ at 3 pm and then followed by Standing People Together at 4 pm, with “On Belonging”- four short pieces which explore the experience of belonging through community and a sense of shared outcomes with others, while navigating the darker side between inclusion and exclusion.

Be sure to come back to the Callicoon Depot at dusk for the final two performances closing out our program. Raphaele Shirley and David Watson’s “150 Flares/Lights/Bagpipes” will illuminate the plaza with an immersive installation combining live sound, handheld lights and white flares. Created specifically for the Callicoon Artwalk, this work builds on Shirley’s series of ephemeral sculptures, momentarily blurring the lines between imagination and reality past and present. The site transforms into an evolving, ephemeral sculpture as the progression of change is marked by Watson’s live musical composition.

Once the smoke clears, Maxx Lee & The Airdrifters will cap off Callicoon Artwalk 2024 with an electrifying musical journey that will captivate audiences with its blend of improvisation, live multi-instrumental performance and innovative use of technology. Prepare for a visual and auditory spectacle that promises to inspire and entertain.

After Artwalk, head to one of the many wonderful restaurants or taverns in Callicoon for dinner, drinks and more live entertainment!
