LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — In the September 21 league football match-up between the home team Bulldogs of Sullivan West (2-0) and the Bears of Tri-Valley (1-1), the Dawgs pounded the visitors 52-8. It was a game that heard calls for “Water!” echoing from both sides of the playing field as the coaches battled the 80-plus degree heat in addition to the spirited opposition.

Sullivan West’s starting QB completed 11 passes on 16 attempts for 159 yards, while Alec Hubert rushed for 44 yards and 2 TDs, plus 87 yards receiving and a TD.

The leading rusher was Paul Nunnari with a total of 101 yards on the turf, while the special teams performed well—Dylan Lockwood with a 25-yard kickoff return, Evan Ebert had a 28-yard kickoff return, Alec Hubert’s 85-yard kickoff return TD, and Ebert’s 15-yard punt return.

Early in the game, hard-pressed Tri-Valley scored a TD and added a 2-point conversion.

Commenting on the blowout victory, Bulldogs assistant coach Justin Diehl said it “looked like our identity, we want to get ahead fast and attack the defense in every way possible, keep the boys energized and make sure they keep working hard.

“The big thing this year is execution, and they’re executing perfectly,” he added.

Adam Ernst, a senior, takes to the gridiron as the Bulldogs’ starting QB. When asked about the team’s goal this year, he replied “Win the sectionals again,” and of his personal goals, “Win for my teammates.”

“The newspaper should talk about the line and how great they are doing,” added Ernst, who said his aspirations for the future include “going to college and playing some ball, and becoming a state trooper.”

Alec Hubert, a 16-year-old junior, takes to the field for the Bulldogs in several positions: running back, linebacker and kickoff returner on the special teams.

His take on the win?

“It feels great; the offensive line did a great job,” he said, noting that his personal goal this season is to get to the 1,000-yard mark and help his team make it to state championships.
