Books and ash: artists exhibit at DVAA

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) will open its fall exhibition with works by artists Dale Emmart and Margaret Inga Urías. The works will be on view from Saturday, September 21 to Sunday, October 27, with an opening reception on September 21 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Emmart’s “Imperfect Books” can be seen in the Alliance Gallery, and “Of Cloud & Ash: Eons, Epochs and Eras,” by Margaret Inga Urías, will be in the Loft Gallery.

Known primarily as a painter and printmaker, Dale Emmart, from Honesdale, PA, has ventured into the world of artist books. The books, which began during the pandemic, reflect a range of ideas and emotions, from environmental concerns to personal losses.

Emmart is a graduate of Cooper Union School of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She has taught at the Parsons Institute, RISD and the Brearley School. Emmart leads a yearly Plein Air workshop in Travanca do Monte, Portugal.

Emmart will hold an artist’s talk at the DVAA on Saturday, October 5 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Urías is an interdisciplinary artist whose work encompasses drawing, murals, photography and glass engraving. She has received many awards, including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant and the New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship. She holds degrees from Barnard College and the Pratt Institute.

“This work is about confronting deep time: its origins and endings, the interconnectedness of all things across all known time,” she said. “It is about loss and trying to find a way to go back in time, or at least slow it down, and to understand its eerie ability to bend and deceive.”

An artist’s talk by Urías is planned for October.

The exhibits are open to the public at no charge.

Hours for the gallery and shop are Thursdays through Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment.

DVAA is located at 37 Main St.
