PIKE COUNTY, PA — It’s a chance to make a difference in a child’s life: become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer. Informational sessions are scheduled this month; see below.
A CASA volunteer advocates for the best interest of a child who has entered the dependency court system. The advocate is a constant, caring presence, and the approximate volunteer time would be 10 to 15 hours a month or less.
CASA advocates are assigned to a case by the sitting judge. The volunteer gets to know the child, and talks to the parents and family. They attend team meetings with social workers and counselors, review records and more.
CASA advocates make recommendations to the judge, based on the information gathered, in the child’s best interest.
You become a much-needed constant in the life of a child and remain assigned to the case until permanency has been achieved. CASA volunteers believe every child has the right to a safe and permanent home.
Informational sessions will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 12 at 105 W. High Street in Milford. Use the back door.
Another session will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 15; and a third at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20.
Information will be provided, as will a Q&A session.
CASA training will be held online beginning on Monday, March 4 at 5:30 p.m., and will take place once a week for eight sessions.
To reserve a seat for the informational session, call 570/296-9827.
