‘Back to School’ helps prepare families for upcoming year

MILFORD AND BUSHKILL, PA ― Although summer vacation just began, it is never too early to prepare for the back-to-school season. Pike County Children and Youth Services (CYS) will hold its annual Back to School Event to help prepare students and families for the upcoming school year by providing backpacks and other useful school supplies including folders, notebooks, glue sticks, pencils and crayons.

The success of previous events inspired the agency to add a second date to be able to assist more families. This year, the agency will be giving away an additional 100 backpacks in the Bushkill area too.

The events will be held on Friday, July 19 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at Ann St. Park in Milford; and on Friday, July 26, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Lehman Township Building, 193 Municipal Dr., in Bushkill.

The event is free. All are invited to meet some of the local providers and learn more about the support services available within the county.

The events were made possible by generous community providers including Angels and Dragonflies, Milford United Methodist Church, CASA of Pike County, Carbon Monroe Pike Drug & Alcohol Commission; Carbon Monroe Pike Mental Health and Development Services, Delaware Valley School District, East Stroudsburg School District, Ecumenical Food Pantry, Family Promise, Justice Works, Pike County Commissioners, Pike County Human Services Office, Triversity, Victims Intervention Program and Service Access and Management.

To learn more, call Pike County Children and Youth Services at 570/296-3446.
